Dingle is a world famous destination and is a must visit on every holiday itinerary.
Located minutes from Dingle Town centre, framed by its fishing port, the peninsula’s charming little ‘capital’ manages to be quaint without even trying. Many pubs double as stores, so you can enjoy Guinness and a singalong among screws and nails, wellies and horseshoes. It has long drawn runaways from across the world, making it a cosmopolitan, creative place. In summer its hilly streets are bustling with visitors; in other seasons its authentic charms are yours for the savouring.
Dingle is one of Ireland’s largest Gaeltacht towns where you will be surrounded by locals speaking in the tongue of ‘Old Ireland’. Dingle in the Irish language is “DAINGEAN UI CHUIS”. “Daingean” means fortress; “UI CHUIS” is generally accepted as translating to Hussey . . . Fortress of Hussey, the Husseys being a Flemish family that came to the area in the 13th Century.
During your vacation, a harbour boat trip is a must. You will catch a glimpse of the amazing marine life in the area. Dingle Harbour was home to Fungie the dolphin for over 30 years – whos dissapearance in 2021 was not expected. From the hotel you can enjoy panoramic views right accross Dingle Bay.
For the Star Wars enthusiast, Skellig Michael, also called Great Skellig served as a filming location for the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and it was also used for the next film in the series, Star Wars: Episode VIII. Enjoy many of the boat trips to see this fabulous location. A purpose built set to replicate the stone huts of Skellig Michael was also created along the Slea Head drive.
